Service Description

Grease duct cleaning for professional kitchens: restaurants, lunch kitchens, cafes, bakeries and staff canteens. Grease accumulating in the ducts, hoods and roof fan is a fire load: a kitchen fire can spread through a greasy exhaust system into the structures and onto the roof. What the law requires: under the Finnish Rescue Act (379/2011, section 13), the building's owner, occupant and operator must ensure that ventilation ducts are serviced and cleaned so that they do not pose a fire hazard. The law sets no fixed cleaning interval - in professional kitchens the established practice, and often also a condition in the insurer's safety regulations, is cleaning at least once a year. The cleaning certificate belongs in the property's fire safety documentation. An honest expectation: cleaning does not make an old duct new. We brush the ducts mechanically - with a plastic brush, steel brush or grease cutter as needed - but grease can remain in the corners and seams of rectangular ducts and in curved or poorly accessible runs even after careful brushing. The work is typically done in a few hours, in the morning before opening or in the evening after closing: in that time we remove a significant grease accumulation and the immediate fire risk, not years of neglect. The cleaning certificate means that the site has been cleaned with the agreed method and that, in our assessment, the duct system did not pose an elevated fire hazard at the time of cleaning. It is not a promise of a factory-clean duct, and it does not remove the operator's maintenance responsibility. If the duct has not been cleaned for years and grease has accumulated by the litre, an annual clean reduces the immediate risk but does not solve the whole problem. The right solution may then be installing additional access hatches, special cleaning (for example dry ice blasting, which proceeds section by section and takes days) or, at worst, replacing the ductwork. We do not recommend long chemical soaking treatments: they can corrode the duct and leak through the seams into the structures. If we find during the work that normal cleaning is not enough, we say so directly and record the findings. The price includes: negative pressurisation and mechanical cleaning of the grease ducts, removal of hardened grease with suitable methods, hood inspection and cleaning, roof fan cleaning and inspection, documentation of the work, the cleaning certificate, and travel costs in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The price depends on the number of hoods, the extent of the ductwork and how accessible it is for cleaning. The price does not include: repairs, new access hatches, dismantling or replacing ducts, special cleaning methods, or a photographic cleaning report (available at extra cost). How it works: 1. Initial inspection with your contact person: hoods, duct access, the roof fan and special points are surveyed and documented with photographs. 2. Kitchen equipment is protected and the exhaust system is shut down safely. 3. The ductwork is put under negative pressure, and the hoods and grease ducts are cleaned mechanically. 4. The roof fan is cleaned on the roof when it can be reached safely. 5. Operation is checked and the work is documented with before-and-after photographs. You receive the cleaning certificate. We serve Espoo, Helsinki, Vantaa, Kauniainen and the rest of Uusimaa. If you are not sure whether a normal annual clean is enough for your site, contact us: info@aeris.fi - we will assess the situation honestly.
