Before installation – know what you need

Air ventilation installation or renovation is a significant investment that will affect your property for decades. That’s why we recommend not making installation decisions in haste. The right solution comes when you first understand what the actual situation is.

What to do?

If you know exactly what you need—for example, a motor replacement or make-up air vent installation—you can order the service directly at the bottom of this page.

 

But if you’re unsure, we recommend starting with an assessment. An air ventilation survey (€155) is a quick way to get an expert evaluation of the situation. If you then order installation work based on the survey, the survey fee is credited. For larger projects, technical consulting ensures that the right solution is chosen at the right price.

Air ventilation unit motor replacement

Motor replacement is our most common installation service. The service life of an air ventilation unit fan motor is typically 8–10 years, and failure usually shows clearly: the unit starts making noise, vibrating, or stops working altogether. We have replaced thousands of motors, and from experience we know that when the symptoms point to the motor, it is almost always the cause.

 

Motor replacement is a quick job—our technician typically completes it in two hours. During the replacement, we check the unit’s general condition and ensure everything works after the replacement. If something else is discovered, we fix the correct issue and invoice according to the work actually carried out.

Make-up air vent installation

A make-up air vent ensures that the air ventilation system receives enough make-up air to operate correctly. Especially in older apartment buildings in Helsinki and Espoo with natural (gravity) ventilation or mechanical exhaust ventilation, insufficient make-up air is one of the most common problems. Without sufficient make-up air, ventilation will not work, resulting in negative pressure, drafts through gaps, and moisture problems.

 

We install make-up air vents in the wall or window frame, depending on the site’s requirements. Every installation includes planning the vent placement, drilling, installation, and checking airflow rates. Ventilation unit replacement

When an air ventilation unit has reached the end of its service life and a motor replacement or maintenance is no longer sufficient, the entire unit must be replaced. Ventilation unit replacement is a larger project that includes dismantling the old unit, installing the new unit, duct connections, electrical connections, airflow measurement and balancing, and a commissioning inspection.

 

When selecting the unit, we help you find the best solution for the site—taking into account space requirements, the ductwork, energy efficiency, and budget. If you’re unsure whether maintenance is enough or a full unit replacement is needed, we recommend starting with technical consulting or at least an air ventilation survey. Especially in 1950s–1980s apartment buildings in Helsinki, replacing the unit and upgrading the system to modern standards brings a significant improvement in energy efficiency and living comfort.

 

The price of ventilation unit replacement is €1,914.

Ductwork repairs and upgrades

Air ventilation installation and repair work is not limited to the unit itself. The ductwork and its components often need repair or upgrading:

 

Replacement of flexible ducting with spiral-seam ducting (€489). Current building regulations require the use of spiral-seam ducts—old flexible accordion ducts are no longer acceptable in new installations. Spiral-seam ducts ensure smooth airflow, better fire safety, and long service life, and they are easier to clean. If you are renovating, the accordion ducts must be replaced.

 

Ventilation silencers (€658). If ventilation causes disturbing noise, silencers reduce the noise significantly—especially in bedrooms and workspaces. If the cause of the noise is unclear, we recommend starting with sound level and noise measurement, which verifies the problem and indicates where a silencer is needed.

 

Replacement of a ventilation damper motor (€824). A failed damper motor typically causes a clicking or ticking sound in the air ventilation system. We replace damper motors quickly and ensure the noise does not recur.

Special installations

We also offer more specialized installation services that require specific expertise:

 

Radon fan installation (€658). Radon is an odorless, invisible radioactive gas that occurs especially in the soil of Southern Finland. A radon fan is the most effective way to reduce radon concentration in a building’s indoor air. We install a radon fan to an existing pipe or, if needed, implement the entire system. In Helsinki’s detached-house areas, radon concentrations can be significant in places.

 

Roof fan installation (€658). A roof fan is installed on the roof and typically serves the exhaust ventilation of the entire building. Installing a roof fan reduces noise indoors and improves ventilation efficiency.

 

Cooker hood or kitchen extractor installation (€488). We install and replace cooker hoods and kitchen extractors connected to the duct system. The installation also includes installing a butterfly damper, i.e., a backdraft damper (€488), which prevents cold drafts and odors from traveling back through the ductwork into the kitchen.

Larger projects and renovations

Air ventilation renovation is a comprehensive project that requires planning, coordination, and professional execution. In Helsinki’s 1950s–1980s apartment buildings, an air ventilation renovation is often timely because the original mechanical exhaust ventilation has reached the end of its service life.

 

In larger projects, we always recommend starting with consulting and design. When the plan is in order, execution proceeds smoothly and the end result meets expectations. We coordinate and manage the project from start to finish—even when it includes, in addition to air ventilation, other building works such as duct boxing, or electrical and plumbing work.
